Indicator 13: Leading Cancers
"Cancer is caused by both internal and external factors. The number of new cancer cases can be reduced, and many cancer deaths can be prevented by avoiding tobacco use, increasing physical activity, achieving optimal weight, improving nutrition, and avoiding sun exposure. In addition, the number of cancer deaths can be reduced by regular screening examinations by health care providers. Such screenings are essential for increasing detection and treatment of cancers in the earliest most treatable stages."[89]
